What this task is

A text of up to 60 words appears on screen. You have 30–40 seconds to prepare, then you read it aloud into the microphone. It feeds both your Reading and Speaking scores, which makes it one of the highest-value tasks in the test.

How to score well

Sample & model answer

Sample

Read the following text aloud.

“Renewable energy sources, such as wind and solar power, are becoming increasingly important as nations seek to reduce their reliance on fossil fuels and lower carbon emissions.”

Model answer

Read it in three smooth chunks, pausing only at the commas: “Renewable energy sources, / such as wind and solar power, / are becoming increasingly important…” Keep a steady pace to the full stop. Don't stop if 'increasingly' feels awkward — just say it and continue.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Long silent pauses while decoding a word
  • Repeating a word after mispronouncing it
  • Reading too fast and slurring words together
  • Flat, robotic delivery with no sentence rhythm
Lumi tip: Practice 3–4 texts a day out loud. Fluency and clear word stress are the fastest wins here.
