What this task is
A 2025 addition. You listen to three people discussing a topic (up to 3 minutes), then summarise the discussion aloud in up to 2 minutes. The key is noting who thinks what.
How to score well
- As you listen, jot each speaker's main point and whether they agree or disagree.
- Structure your summary: topic β first view β second/opposing view β overall outcome.
- Cover all three speakers, not just one β that's the most common way marks are lost.
- Use the full two minutes with a steady, fluent pace.
Template
βThe discussion focused on [topic]. The first speaker argued that [view 1]. A second speaker took a different view, suggesting that [view 2], while the third added that [view 3]. Overall, the group [agreed / disagreed / concluded] that [outcome].β
Common mistakes to avoid
- Summarising only one speaker's opinion
- Losing track of who said what
- Running out of things to say well before 2 minutes
Lumi tip: A quick 3-row note (Speaker 1 / 2 / 3) as you listen makes the summary write itself.
